The foundation’s work includes land acquisition, stewardship, education, and advocacy, all aimed at protecting the region’s natural beauty and biodiversity.


What the Summer Land Stewardship Internship Involves


The 2026 Land Stewardship Summer Internship is designed to give interns a broad experience in land management and conservation. The position requires about 24 hours of work per week over approximately 14 weeks, from May through August. The schedule is flexible but includes Thursday mornings and some early mornings, with occasional weekend work.


Interns will split their time between fieldwork and office tasks, gaining exposure to different aspects of land stewardship. The internship offers a $6,500 stipend, but housing is not provided.


Key Responsibilities of the Intern


As a Land Stewardship Intern, you will support the CCF Land Stewardship team under the guidance of the Land Stewardship Technician. Your duties will include:


  • Maintaining trails to ensure safe and enjoyable public access. This involves mowing, weed whacking, and clearing paths.

  • Restoring habitats for plants and wildlife by managing invasive species and encouraging native growth.

  • Participating in volunteer workdays, typically one to two times per week, helping to engage the community in conservation efforts.

  • Sampling water quality at Frost Fish Creek to monitor environmental health.

  • Assisting with monitoring conservation lands to track changes and identify issues.

  • Supporting outreach activities and events to raise awareness about land stewardship.


These tasks provide a well-rounded experience in both practical conservation work and community engagement.


Training and Skills Development


CCF provides thorough training to prepare interns for their responsibilities. You will learn:


  • Various land management strategies and techniques used in conservation.

  • How to monitor and report on conservation properties effectively.

  • Identification of invasive and native plants, a crucial skill for habitat restoration.

  • Safe and proper use of power and hand tools required for land management.


This training ensures that interns leave the program with valuable knowledge and skills applicable to future careers in environmental science, conservation, or land management.


Who Should Apply


The internship is physically demanding. Interns must be able to work outdoors in different weather conditions, walk across uneven and steep terrain, and handle exposure to ticks and poison ivy.
