CCF Winter Webinar Series Returns February 7

CCF’s Free Winter Webinar Series is back this February with a lineup of engaging programs that explore conservation, wildlife, coastal ecosystems, and the people working to protect them. Running weekly from February through March, these free webinars offer a chance to learn from local experts and partner organizations, all from the comfort of home.

From habitat restoration and amphibians to sharks, insects, birds, beachcombing, and seagrass conservation, this year’s series highlights the incredible biodiversity of Cape Cod and beyond, while offering insight into the science and stewardship behind conservation work.

This program is made possible through funding from the Chatham Cultural Council.

February 2026 Webinar Lineup

February 7: Update on CCF’s Restoration Projects.

Presented by Julie, Director of Land Stewardship, CCF

  • Kick off the series with an overview of CCF’s ongoing habitat restoration efforts. This webinar will focus on current projects across CCF conservation lands, with special attention given to collaborative restoration opportunities at Frost Fish Creek. February 14: Small but Important: All About Amphibians in Massachusetts

Presented by Eli, Land Steward Technician, CCF

  • Curious about the frogs, salamanders, and other amphibians you might hear or spot this spring? This webinar dives into the fascinating life cycles of Massachusetts amphibians, explains what qualifies as a vernal pool, and highlights native species found on Cape Cod. Participants will also learn about the current conservation status of amphibians statewide and why these small creatures play such an important ecological role.

February 21: Awareness Inspires Conservation

Presented by Kristen Smith, Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (AWSC)

  • The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy is dedicated to advancing scientific research, educating the public, and improving safety along our coasts. This webinar provides an inside look at the white shark research projects conducted and funded by AWSC and how this research informs conservation and public safety efforts. Attendees will view videos and photographs from the research season, gain a better understanding of shark behavior, and learn what it takes to conduct white shark research. A Q&A session will follow, with opportunities to learn how to get involved in shark and ocean conservation.

February 28: Is It a Wasp, Bee, Moth, or Fly?

Presented by Beth Taylor

  • This program offers a beginner-friendly introduction to insect classification using native pollinators as examples. Learn how to tell similar-looking insects apart, explore their life cycles, and discover when you’re most likely to encounter different stages throughout the year on Cape Cod. A great webinar for anyone interested in pollinators and insect diversity.

March 2026 Webinar Lineup

March 7 Birds, Migration, and Dark Skies

Presented by James Junda

  • This bird-focused webinar will explore bird migration and the importance of dark skies, serving as a timely lead-up to Earth Week. Participants will learn how light pollution affects migrating birds and why protecting night skies is a growing conservation priority.

March 14 Better Beachcombing: Tidal Treasures

Presented by Phil Kyle

Learn how to identify shells, seaweed, and other coastal finds while gaining a deeper appreciation for Cape Cod’s dynamic shoreline ecosystems.

March 21 Global Importance of Seagrass Conservation

Presented by Dr. Agnes Mittermayr, Center for Coastal Studies

  • Often called the “forgotten ecosystem,” seagrass supports biodiversity, protects coastlines, improves water quality, and plays a powerful role in mitigating climate change through carbon sequestration. This webinar will focus on seagrass in Pleasant Bay while placing it within a global conservation context. Dr. Agnes Mittermayr will discuss monitoring efforts through SeagrassNet, ongoing research, and restoration initiatives aimed at protecting these vital ecosystems.

March 28 Exploring the Past with NickDig
