This week, we at the Chatham Conservation Foundation are celebrating International Dark Sky Week—a time to appreciate the beauty of our night skies and recognize the important role darkness plays in a healthy environment.
From migratory birds to coastal ecosystems, many species depend on natural light cycles to survive. Excessive artificial lighting can disrupt these patterns, impacting wildlife, human health, and our ability to experience the night sky. Protecting dark skies is a simple yet powerful way to support biodiversity and preserve a sense of place here on Cape Cod.
Throughout April, we invite you to explore Making a Case for Dark Skies at the Eldredge Public Library. This exhibit offers a closer look at how light pollution affects our region—and what we can do about it.
As we reflect on these ideas during Dark Sky Week, we invite you to continue the conversation with us in person.
