Introduction/Invasiveness

- Introduced to the US from Japan in the 1700s, for use as a rootstock for grafting cultivated roses, a highway planting, a living fence, an erosion control agent, and a planting to attract wildlife


- Extremely fast growing, up to 1-2 ft per week. They can spread through wildlife eating their fruit or through tips of their arching branches touching the ground and developing roots


- Spreads the most in fields and areas with abundant sunlight

- Flowers are small and white with 5 petals that grow in clusters on their branches, generally described as being very fragrant and pleasant smelling
