NATIVE PLANT EDUCATION

FROST FISH CREEK PLANT IDENTIFICATION INITIATIVE

As you walk along Frost Fish Creek’s 1.1-mile walking trail, you’ll find that plants have been tagged with their scientific names, common names, and native / non-native / invasive status. The Chatham Conservation Foundation has undertaken this plant identification effort to bring awareness to the critical role that native plants play in our Cape Cod ecosystems and the risk that invasive species pose once introduced.

Please see the following pages for descriptions of the plants at Frost Fish Creek:

Plants that have grown in Massachusetts since before European colonization.

Plants that are not native to Massachusetts.

Non-natives that out-grow and out-reproduce natives in the same growing conditions.

Many thanks to an anonymous donor for sponsoring this important initiative!
