Conservation Land: Recent
Acquisitions
|
Recent Acquisitions:
Three wonderful properties were added to CCF's List of properties at year end of 2004 and
January of 2005.
Stage Island: Property # 177. The Foundation received a gift of 4.11 acres of
beautiful marshland on the southwest side of Stage Island overlooking Stage Harbor. The
importance of the preservation of marshland as habitat for birds and marine life cannot be
underestimated.
Absegami Run:
In December 2004, CCF received an anonymous gift of .8 acres off Absegami Run near the
Oyster Pond (property #178). This most generous and significant gift of a buildable lot
borders other Foundation Properties #19, #113, #144, and #132 increasing the conservation
area in that location to 7+ acres.
Ryder's Cove Herring Run:
The Foundation was able to buy a .97 acre buildable lot, Property #179, through which
runs Chatham's only active herring run. It is located at the northwest end of Ryder's Cove
and is visible from Rt. 28. The owners had previously gifted the Foundation an adjacent
.08 acres and were able to offer the Foundation lot #179 at below market value. After a
successful capital campaign, the Foundation was able to purchase the property in January
2005. Chatham's Herring Warden oversees maintenance of the run and the migration of the
herring in the spring and fall.
